Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame to Induct Michael Brewer December 1, 2018 in Muskogee
Oklahoma City-born singer, guitarist, and songwriter, Michael Brewer will be inducted into the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame December 1, 2018 in Muskogee at the Hall of Fame. Best-known known as half of the folk-rock duo, Brewer and Shipley, Michael Brewer’s vocal and songwriting skills are featured on their 1971 Billboard Top Ten hit, “One Toke Over the Line.”
Born in Oklahoma City, April 4, 1944, Brewer’s songs have been recorded by Stephen Stills, Don McLean, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, the Dillards, and the Seldom Scene, among others. Brewer has performed shows with Tom Shipley and as a solo artist across the United States since hitting the scene with the first Brewer and Shipley album in 1968.
Brewer’s induction will be accompanied by an intimate and limited seating performance of his songs at the induction at the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame in Muskogee.
According to Amy Love, president of the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame board of directors, “The goals of this show include putting the full induction spotlight on one artist, as well as raising money for the hall of fame. All proceeds from the show will go to the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame’s operational fund. To accomplish these goals, we are holding the event in our Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame where we have invested in an excellent sound system and stage environment where patrons will see and hear a top-notch production.”
The Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame hopes this event will put focus on the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame and its primary mission. “Our goal is to celebrate the accomplishments of Oklahomans in the world of music,” said Dr. Hugh Foley, chairman of the hall of fame’s induction selection committee. “Michael Brewer has been on our list for some time and we were thrilled he agreed to be inducted and perform a show in this new format of highlighting one artist at the actual hall of fame,” Foley added.
Doors will open for the induction ceremony at 6 p.m. in the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame in Muskogee. The induction ceremony will begin at 7 p.m. and will include a short documentary of Michael Brewer’s career, Michael Brewer’s acceptance speech, and a full set of his music performed solo in the intimate environment of the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame.
